CoLab

ORIGINS

I co-founded CoLab in 2010 with three friends. We shared a collective desire to bring about positive change. For me it was also an opportunity to shift my experience in marketing and digital arts towards a new, creative career in information technology.

HIGHLIGHTS

We had an ambitious vision. Our strategy, design, build agency represented the building block of a larger model. We envisioned a network of cooperatives providing services and sharing resources. While a nonprofit foundation was the hub. The hub would power philanthropic fundraising and work to preserve a shared culture.

We ran our office as a co-work space. Named The Hive, it was a place that fostered collaboration and new business. I oversaw the space and development of the sub brand.

BRANDING

I've been called manager, ambassador, creative director. For 14 years I've been the key stakeholder and advisor, when it comes to decisions related to the the CoLab brand.

The concept for brand was a combination of inspiration. It came from my co-founders previous business Taksu, meaning a magical transfer of energy, and the idea that great things are possible when you lead from the heart.

In our burgeoning community, we had a talented young artist name Josh Sperling. I collaborated with him to evolve our brand identity. He helped me revamp our original logo mark, the 8-bit heart.

Today CoLab has 20 cooperative member owners plus a network of freelancers and agency partners. It has an impeccable reputation for quality work, transparent business practices and long term reliability to the clients it serves. CoLab is also a certified B Corporation. An initiative which I led beginning in 2015.
